9STAR announced that their Shibboleth/SAML practice team has successfully enabled the University of Connecticut campus infrastructure with Shibboleth based federated access. The Shibboleth team at 9STAR closely collaborated with the University of Connecticut IT team to deploy and integrate Shibboleth Identity and Service Providers. Shibboleth was integrated and deployed in a multi-vendor infrastructure scenario that included technologies and products from vendors such as Microsoft, JASIG and others.
As a result, University of Connecticut users (students, staff, faculty) are able to use their existing Campus user credentials to access different SAML and Shibboleth enabled applications on the network. Campus users can now seamlessly authenticate at the UConn Shibboleth Identity Provider service using their existing UConn CAS credentials and get access to remote network resources.
Thousands of UConn users can now use the UConn Shibboleth infrastructure to securely login once and access multiple network resources without re-logging. Single sign-on (SSO) is now enabled both within and outside the Campus network. Once signed-in using Shibboleth, users are now able to access their favorite Microsoft SharePoint hosted campus websites without inputting their user credentials on the SharePoint servers. The SharePoint server administrators on the other hand no longer need to deal with user credential management or authentication on their server. This reduces potential liabilities for the application administrators with respect to identity theft and mis-management.
The 9STAR RESEARCH Shibboleth/SAML team worked with speed and diligence and was able to deliver results in record time. They were able to leverage their vast Shibboleth/SAML experience and knowledge base to comprehend University of Connecticut’s IT teams requirements quickly and implement appropriate federated access IT solution within budget and timeline.
